Backworth was another interesting colliery system situated just north of the River Tyne

It extended from Fenwicks pit out to Burradon & Weetslade Washer in the west, & down to

Percy Main & Howdons Docks on the north bank of the River Tyne

Although not part of the Backworth system, I have included a picture at Seghill Colliery to the north

The line from Backworth to Burradon & Weetslade Washer closed in 1977, followed by Backworth Colliery in 1980
