WELCOME TO STEAM TRAIN MEMORIES

THIS SITE IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION

A collection of photographs from the B.R.Steam Era 1964 to 1968
with my own stories and memories from that period
also some more recent photographs from 2001 to the present day

About Me

My name is John Buswell. I decided to construct this website to showcase some of my thousands of steam train photos which I have taken over the years. I started taking pictures of steam trains in 1962 at age 14. When I joined British Rail in October, 1964 I went on a mission in my spare time to capture as much as possible of the dying years of B.R.steam. During the 80's & 90's I lived in the Republic of Ireland. During this time I was unable to photograph the growing heritage railway scene in the UK or the return to steam railtours. I returned to the UK in 2001 and resumed taking pictures of steam trains, both on the main line & on heritage railways. I have lived in Scotland since 2006 and still actively go out taking pictures of railtours.

This website is organised into several different sections. They are "Routes", (e.g. Settle Jn. to Carlisle, West Coast Main Line, etc), "Stations", "Motive Power Depots (Sheds)", "Industrial" & "Heritage Railways". These are selectable using the above links. The photos in these sections are a mixture of colour & black and white. There is another section called "My Memories" where I have recalled my exploits in taking some of these photos.

Thanks for visiting my site. I hope you enjoy it.

NORTH WALES COAST

In the 1960's many people who lived in the North of England came to the North Wales Coast for their summer holidays. Many special summertime only trains were provided to bring people from Manchester, Leeds, Bradford, Huddersfield, Rochdale, Oldham & Bolton to the seaside resorts of Llandudno, Rhyl, Abergele and Colwyn Bay. 1966 was the last year that most of these trains were steam hauled.
